City Lights at 60: What was the first book you bought at City Lights? Oscar Villalon answers.

City Lights is 60!

To celebrate, we’re sharing historical photos from our archives, videos from the literary community, and more on our blog — all leading up to our 60th anniversary party this summer! Following our birthday bash, we’re hosting a series of events in the store, so stay tuned for updates (we have many ways of keeping in touch: here, herehere, aaand here).

To start our video series, Oscar Villalon, Managing Editor of West Coast literary journal ZYZZYVA (and former Book Editor at The San Francisco Chronicle), sat down with us in Ferlinghetti’s office and tells us about the first book he bought at City Lights. Enjoy!

What was the first book you bought at City Lights? Answer in the comments or on Facebook.
